Working together for Preservation, Protection & Peace

A brief overview of how, working together, we can create a global network to broadcast regional data and information for the safety and benefit of residents and visitors.

Global & Regional in One App
Worldwide discovery with location-based info
Easy Rollout
Uses existing communication channels
Quality Control
Reports are reviewed before approved

Implementation is simple

Agencies introduce the program using channels they already run. After the program introduction, Beach Buddy can operate with minimal agency involvement; the agency decides how involved they want to be.

1
Announce
Share the program using email, newsletters, your website, social media, and visitor materials.
  • Email
  • Newsletter
  • Website
  • Social
2
Explain
A web page explains the program and benefits, shows how to use the app, and gives app store download links.
The landing page can be created by the Safe Ocean Project (free of charge) with a link for agency use.
3
Usage grows naturally
People keep using the app to find the best beach at the time they're going and while at the beach because conditions change. More community adoption increases views for your region and others.
More participation → further reach and improved hazard warning accuracy. Better together!
Example outreach message to consider:

“Beach Buddy is a free coastal travel app that helps you choose the best beach for you. Check it before you go and before you enter the ocean — conditions can change quickly. Use it to explore coastal areas, plan activities, and stay aware of storms and local conditions.”

Implementation Levels

Start with the basics and expand any time. Any of these options can be customized to suit your agency-specific needs and available tools.

Level 1
Adopt Community Outreach Program
Simply suggest the use of the Beach Buddy app to the residents and visitors in your region. Users can submit hazard reports, leaving the safety and control in their hands. The app stays useful because users check conditions and hazards repeatedly and requires no government or agency involvement outside of educating people about the Program.
  • Immediately available
  • Expanded warning reach from local to regional and even global
  • Hazard awareness is available to all users if they enter your location
Level 2
Official Reports
Designate an official person, agency or department to submit hazard reports as they happen. Those reports will be immediately approved, providing the warning instantly in the Beach Buddy app. The warnings will include your agency name for transparency and credibility.
  • Faster reporting and sharing of hazard warnings
  • Increased compliance based on trusted reporting source
  • Improves accuracy of the app by increasing the number of accurate hazards reports
Level 3
Data Sharing
Share official data with the Beach Buddy app through API. Warnings will show your agency name and website link; expanding reach and improving accuracy for residents and travelers. Data transfer setup is easy and requires little agency maintenance once established.
  • Highest report and data accuracy
  • Increased awareness of agency providing the data
  • Agency attribution retained with little effort after initial setup
Level 4
Data Incorporation
If your region already has tools (shark ping data, reports or advisories, shark incident websites), please contact us to learn more about working together to create a network for continutity in marine hazard warnings globally.
  • Global Platform is in place & ready to scale
  • Shark tracking map based on ping data can be created, providing the historical path for each tagged shark with an ID
  • Helps to see changes in migration patterns and further shark research
  • Active pings will issue a hazard warning to users that a shark is in the water in their area and advising them to get out of the water
